Killara High School Australia Accident Today: Police Charge Man Following Alleged Vehicle Theft and Pedestrian Collision

A man has been charged after an incident outside a school in East Killara, Sydney, on Tuesday morning that involved an alleged vehicle theft and a pedestrian being struck.

According to New South Wales Police, emergency services were called to Koola Avenue, East Killara, at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, following reports of a stolen vehicle and a crash outside the school.

Police from Kuring Gai Police Area Command attended the scene and were informed that a 59-year-old man had exited his vehicle when an unknown man allegedly entered it and attempted to drive away without the owner’s consent.

During the alleged attempt to leave the scene, the vehicle struck the 59-year-old man before coming to a stop a short distance away. Members of the public intervened and restrained the driver until police officers arrived.

The 39-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and transported to a hospital for mandatory testing before being taken to Hornsby Police Station.

Following inquiries, police charged the man with taking and driving a conveyance without the owner’s consent, causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, and goods in custody. Authorities also confirmed he faces several additional charges relating to separate, unrelated matters.

The accused was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The injured 59-year-old received medical treatment following the incident. Police have not released further information regarding his condition.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response outside the school during the morning arrival period, with police and other emergency personnel attending to secure the area and investigate the circumstances. Authorities have not indicated that students or school staff were physically involved in the incident.
